TECH THEATRE PROGRAM

When:  June 9 – July 28, 2013

Where:  The Tarkington – home of the Booth Tarkington Civic Theatre

Who:  Area high school students who are interested in technical theatre.  (freshman through graduated seniors who have not yet attended college)  All levels of participation and hands-on experience will be available with opportunities to interview for leadership positions.  Students will be under the supervision of the Booth Tarkington Civic Theatre’s professional production staff and Aaron Seelig, technical theatre instructor at Carmel High School.

What:   Weekly meetings – Tech students will attend weekly meetings with the Tech Coordinator.  At these meetings students will be able to sign up for various work opportunities for ANYTHING GOES, interview for various crew head positions, discuss tech challenges that their high schools currently face and be introduced to such topics as how to write a technical theatre resume and which colleges have good technical theatre programs.

Tours – Students will get to see all of the backstage and technical areas of the Tarkington Theatre and the Palladium.

Workshops – Students will be invited to attend the American Association of Community Theatre Festival Workshops in June.  Workshop topics will include and not be limited to:  Sound mixing, Faux Painting, Flying, Vectorworks/CAD, Automated Scenery, Stage Management Round Table, Lighting Equipment Maintenance, and Costume Construction.

Crew for ANYTHING GOES – Students will have the opportunity to participate in building and painting the set, focusing lights, running shifts, building costumes, assisting with stage management, gathering props, fitting microphones, etc.   Students will run the technical side of all ANYTHING GOES performances under the guidance of a professional staff.  Students will also have the opportunity to volunteer for future Civic Mainstage productions after working with The Young Adult Program.

Thespian Points – Students will be able to earn Thespian Points and will be given the proper paperwork to take back to their schools.

Cost – There will be a one time $50 fee assessed to each student.  This fee will cover the cost of a Young Adult Program T-shirt and will cover all miscellaneous supplies given to each student.
