A new twist on a long-running program with a final presentation in the Tarkington!
We are excited to announce a new format for our popular Musical Theatre Saturdays program of years past. This reimagining comes as we look to the future and endeavor to offer our students more challenging and interesting curriculum in a setting that caters to their individual skill level but also encourages growth and interest in attaining their level best. Musical Theatre III and the newly formed Advanced Musical Theatre Workshop (see below) will be AUDITIONED classes. For admission into this advanced level class that culminates with a performance on the Tarkington stage, students will need to sing 16 bars of a song, read from a script and go through a movement audition. Once placed, students can look forward to 10 sessions of fun and hard work with a focus on collaboration and study in Acting (character development, techniques for interpreting a song, etc.), Music (vocal performance technique, mechanics of breathing, how to read a score, music vocabulary, etc.), and Dance (terminology, musical theatre dance styles – jazz, ballet, tap, modern, how to prepare for performance, etc.). In addition to performance, students will learn history of the American musical theatre and how this popular art form has changed and developed over several decades.

JR. CIVIC ON DEMAND

Having trouble fitting one of our regularly scheduled classes into your hectic schedule? We can help! If you have a group of 6-10 young people interested in taking one of the applicable classes (listed below), we will tailor a regular 8-week or 4-week Intensive class session to accommodate you. You provide us with the dates and times that are convenient for your group and we will provide the space and an instructor.

Additionally, as part of our Community Outreach program DramaWorks, we are able to offer ON-DEMAND programming to local community service organizations serving children who may not otherwise have access to our programming. As with any On-Demand class, each group must have 6-10 students and existing curriculum from our Jr. Civic classes must be used. For these groups, we will gladly supply an instructor in our own space or send an instructor directly to your community center or school.

Each class can run on an 8-week schedule (once a week for 8 weeks) or as an Intensive 4-week schedule (twice a week for 4 weeks).
