From the Director’s Chair
Greetings and welcome to the 2011-2012 Season of JR. CIVIC! I am so pleased to welcome you to our 71st year of operation and to introduce you to our new home at the Center for the Performing Arts in Carmel! And, my, how we’ve grown! Our new location offers us many new opportunities to bring the same diversified and comprehensive theatre education programming you expect from us on a much larger scale. Brand new state-of-the-art classroom and rehearsal facilities are waiting for you to stretch your artistic muscles, get those creative juices flowing and allow us to bring the excitement and craft of live theatre to families throughout the region.
Many of our popular programs are back this year. These include ON-DEMAND programming, BACKSTAGE PASS tours and the PLAY PASS program giving each student completing a class the chance to experience a live theatrical performance on our stage for free! Our popular WINTER INTENSIVE SESSION also returns with new offerings and concentrated learning opportunities designed to give students of all ages the chance to try something new!
You will also notice a change in the way our Acting and Musical Theatre classes are set up. With expanded classroom space to operate in, we have been able to adjust our curriculum so that there is a clearer path for moving onward and upward through our program. Utilizing a comprehensive method of evaluation, students preschool-grade 12 will now have the chance to move up to the next class level while still remaining with other students their own age.

Booth Tarkington Civic Theatre offers year-round educational programming for youth, preschool through grade 12, and the STUDIO SERIES workshops for adults. We are proud that all of our classes are taught by local theatre professionals and are designed to strengthen and build confidence, advance growth, develop skills, create opportunities to make new friends and foster a life-long love of live theatre. But, most of all – it’s FUN!
